October 25, 2001: Introduced the caving section! Now you can enter your caving trips along with interesting stories about the cave. We start off with 110 caves and first-hand accounts from the bros.
October 20, 2001: There are now over 4,000 climbing trips in the hut (2,800 unique routes), and we are just over 400 registered users.
March 3, 2001: After a long time doing all sorts of other things, we are now back to improving the hut.
October 24, 2000:
September 24, 2000: When you type in new logs and select an existing climb in the drop-down list, the data will be auto-filled into the text boxed below. You can suggest changes to the climbing data by editing the text in these boxes before submitting the climb.
September 20, 2000: Now you can store your climbing logs on your handheld! We have implemented an AvantGo version of the database- currently it is experimental. Add a channel to http://adventurehut.com/avantgo/, set the link depth to 2, and include images. When you sync you are asked to login, and after another sync all your data is available on the go!
September 17, 2000: Made a number of changes in the climbing logs-
September 7, 2000: Changed the search box on the climbing page so that it isn't necessary to click "Find" every time the search options are changed. Also some minor things that I have forgotten...
September 5, 2000: Internal changes in the ways country information is stores for crags- hopefully more scalable. Removed "style" list for climbs, instead there is now only "solo" and "aid" tickboxes. The OSF, Redpoint etc was creating too much debate!
August 1, 2000: Site is live with rock climbing logs- climbers all over net go wild... The initial database contains about 1000 climbs from 7 different countries (most of it leveraged from willerup.com).
What
is AdventureHut?The main purpose of the AdventureHut web site is to keep track of all the outdoor activities you do. Currently it is focussed around rock climbing, but we are planning to add white-water kayaking and caving soon.
Once registered as a user, you can type the climbing routes you have done into your personal log file. For each route you specify a date; who you climbed it with; in what "style"; and you can add notes and pictures if you want. You can see lists of all the routes you have done so far, sort them by various criteria, look at statistics and so forth. If you want, you can make your log entries available for others to look at.
It
is always interesting to look in other people's log files - to see what
your friends have been doing over the weekend. You can get beta about
routes you are planning to climb, or just read about the epics that
other hut members are having!
AdventureHut is nonprofit, noncommercial etc. It was started by the Willerup Brothers, Fred and Mathias. They had been logging their outdoor activities on their own web site for a number of years, but decided that it could be fun if others did the same. So, some of their Bristol-based climbing friends started logging their climbs as well and the web site was born.
If you like to join in, just register and start typing in the climbs you are doing. We are not trying to sell you anything, or choke you with banner adds! We both have full-time jobs, so we are really just doing this to see if it is a good idea and to share the convenience of keeping track of your outdoor activities on the net.
In order to add you own log entries you need to register. You simply click on the menu "Register" in the top right hand corner of the screen. You need to give your name, select a username and password, etc.
Once you are registered, you need to Log in. You can see if you a logged in because the header on the web pages will say "Hi Fred"- if your name is Fred, that is. You can now start logging your climbs by going into the climbing section from the top header.
Feedback or questions are always welcome...
